For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. ~ 1Thessalonians 2:13

Read it to be wise,
believe it to be safe,
practice it to be holy.

It contains light to direct you,
food to support you,
comfort to cheer you.

It is the traveller's map,
the pilgrim's staff,
the pilot's compass,
the soldier's sword,
Christian's charter.

Here paradise is restored,
heaven opened,
the gates of hell disclosed.

Christ is its grand subject,
our good its design,
and the glory of God its end.

"It should:
fill the memory,
rule the heart,
and guide the feet.

Read it:
slowly,
frequently,
and prayerfully.

It is a mine of wealth,
a paradise of glory,
and a river of pleasure.

It is given you in life,
will be opened in the judgment,
and will be remembered for ever.

It involves the highest responsibility,
rewards the greatest labour,
and condemns all who trifle with its holy contents."



For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ~ Hebrews 4:12
